It's really annoying to be left off somewhere interesting in a previous book, then have the next book moving on as if the interesting part were an afterthought. Not only that, I kept reading and nothing interesting, at all, was happening. I was a tenth of the way through the book and the most interesting thing was a new side character in Alexion's part of the story. And his had always been the poopy part of the story. Slow, poorly written nonsense. Except for the new side character.Plus the main character is somehow turning into a white knight SJW half homo, with half a chapter dedicated to him literally stuttering because he was afraid him being attracted to the girl he likes, who very obviously likes him, and would somehow offend her by dare assuming she might possibly be attracted to him, and that that is some form of cardinal evil.I'm glad I've found some other good series so I don't have to read this garbage. A tenth of the book, and not one remotely interesting thing happens. Just a "oh, that's kinda neat," from a side character. It wouldn't be so annoying if the last book hadn't left off somewhere interesting. With how the book is going, it'll be at least three quarters of the way done before anything mildly interesting happens.Examples: Frank going off to conquer towns. No one gives a bleep about Frank!Alexion complaining. Same as all the other books. Mildly interesting side character added. Nothing that will make the book super interesting before the half way mark.Main character: such a uninteresting cuck I can't even remember his name at the moment. Every story has to be about gaining levels or power to an extent, so that's understandable. But this time it's so formulaic and boring it's not even worth going over.Riley: changed from an interesting character in her own book to a standard "stupid girl not making any decisions, waiting for a dense man to ask her out and being offended/hurt when he 'just doesn't seem to get it'." That formula can generally be used for comedic effect after some build up, but this just stupidly throws it in at the first part of the book. After it already used the same shtick in the last book.Dark God/Alfred/other: Nothing noteworthy. A new faction, with another formulaic name, has been introduced. And not only introduced, done so in a formulaic manner. "What! You're not strong enough, main character! So I'm gonna give you a month to prepare!" By the way, that nonsensical logic is presented at the same time as them saying "this game is basically exactly like life." Uh, what? Exactly like life...but with James Bond villain logic thrown in, maybe.Seriously, waited all this time and this is the nonsense I got! Screw this book.

I really like how we see a real darker side come out of Jason in this book. Until now I haven't really considered him to be a 'villain'. If you replace the humans that started in Lux with undead, and made Jason's new race / class some sort of human, I doubt nearly as many people would consider the death of a bunch of undead (for power leveling) and the creation of a human city the makings of an evil dictator. It's crazy to me how so many people judge the willing sacrifices he did in that first outpost city as evil, it's literally just a race change. Even Claire who works at a gaming company was freaking out when it seemed like a pretty straightforward game mechanic. But in Dominion we really see Jason play into his darker side. Loved it! :)

One thing I can say about Mr Bagwell's works is they always leave you hanging, craving more and free takes the time needed to make each book have its own life and personality and truly make each character come to life

Honestly, I cannot say I'm a fan of this installment. It feels like a letdown.Without getting into any major spoilers, this just felt more like a placeholder book. It lacked in true substance. If the series was food, the first 3 could be considered entrees at a decent sitdown restaurant. The side quest books could be considered appetizers at those places.Dominion feels more like I was given reheated McDonalds instead of a normal meal.I disliked the drawn out teenage drama. It's run the course. I found myself just glossing over that stuff, which annoys me because I know I'm not invested in a part of the story any longer. The mega training stuff was also a bit tropey, almost a bit lazy, as a way to quickly build up an intentionally min/maxed character. There's other stuff I would say, but I dont want to give you the impression that I hate the author or the series overall.Bagwell delivered a great overall world and a series that I have enjoyed. Having one "subjectively bad" book in a series doesnt make me want to stop reading the series all together. If you took the time to read the whole review, I'd implore you to spend your money and read the other books. They are really quite engaging and well done.

Travis Bagwell has done an excellent job creating characters in two worlds that you get attached to, and love to root for/against. The conflicts in both the real world and the virtual world of Awaken Online are well written and easy to engage with because a lot of it hits close to home. Well done sir! Keep up the good work.

I'm always worried that authors won't be able to capture the magic of their last books whenever a new one comes out, but this was just as enthralling as the previous books, if not more so. I highly enjoy reading about Jason, and his development as a character is beautiful to watch. The side characters still hold their own in my opinion, and I was still invested in what happened to them as the story went on. As always, the in game world was fun to explore, and the new antagonist is quite interesting. Surprisingly enough, one of the places I found myself to be most invested in was the events happening in the real world. The emotions of the characters and the tension from several different events coming together was skillfully put together, and rather than wanting to hurry through those moments to get back to the game, I found myself leaning closer to the book. The only thing I found to be slightly bothersome was the relationship drama between Jason and Riley at the beginning, but I recognize that it did add to the plot and was necessary. It wasn't a major issue, just something I rolled my eyes at a couple of times. All in all, this was quite possibly the strongest in the series to date, and I shall now go back to eagerly awaiting the next release.

I'm ready for the next book please 😊Awesome read, loving the mixing of real and VR, Would like to see more of this world and just how many gods are there?
