I love Kris Vallotton and his ministry. I bought this book without hesitation; knowing he wrote it. I must say, I was a little disappointed. I feel it lacked depth. I had to explain to my children what the book was saying {they are 6 & 8 and know a lot about the Lord}. I felt like the book could have been so much more as a story, instead of a rhyme. I felt it a little limited. It's sad and graphic in the middle and needs depth to help the children really understand what is going on. And who is the guy that sets them free? It describes nothing about him, except "they met a great fellow, who reached out with love to save them from trouble." I feel like he left out the most beautiful part- who is Jesus? The One who sets us/them free and redeems us/them back to who we/they are.Anyway, it does have a powerful message-a story of redemption. Be prepared to help your children process/understand it.
The Ways of Royalty is a beautifully written and illustrated book for children. It speaks of God's kingdom in a way that both little kids and older kids can understand or imagine. The engaging illustrations are great for both parents who read to their children, and for children who will read the book on their own. It's written in a way that adults can appreciate the story too. A great addition to any child's book shelf or a youth ministry's shelf. I look forward to reading other books by this author.
Recommended from a popular Christian blogger... Within the first couple of pages the kids' parents die in a fire.... I mean, can't we just have a book that doesn't mention parents dying FOR ONCE...? Otherwise, a nice book. I returned it once I got it because it upset my kids and they take a lot to get upset. Bummed!

Such a sweet book for children by Kris Vallotton. The rhyme in it is adorable and the illustration is amazing! You [of course] won't be disappointed with this buy. Presents essential, eternal, wonderful truth that children NEED to know.My only critique is that I wish it came in board not just paper. But definitely a 5 star reguardless!
Imagine if our children were raised from birth to know that they are royal children of the Most High God? I bought this book for a shower gift for a special baby boy. I am hoping his parents and he will realize a little more their identity as royalty each time they sit down to read it together.
