About the Author

Omarosa Manigault Newman is the former Director of Communications for the Office of Public Liaison in Donald Trump’s White House, and was an aide in the Office of Presidential Personnel and the Office of the Vice President in the Clinton White House. She has served as an adjunct professor in the Howard University School of Business. Prior to joining the Trump administration, Omarosa served as a chaplain in the California State Military Reserve. She currently serves in pastoral ministry at The Sanctuary @ Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, where her husband, John Allen Newman, is the senior pastor.

I originally greeted this book with a great deal of skepticism. I had never seen an episode of “The Apprentice,” Donald Trump’s reality TV show that first made Omarosa famous, but I knew that she played the villain on that show and was a longtime champion of Trump before turning 180 degrees and penning this behind-the-scenes book. If Sarah Huckabee Sanders had a shred of credibility herself, I could almost believe her when she repeated the official White House line that dismissed Omarosa’s book as an act of vengeance by a disgruntled employee. (Although I’ve always had a problem with the term “disgruntled employee” used to discredit anything anyone ever says about someone they formerly worked for, as if no employer could ever do anything reprehensible.) But I knew that the book irked Trump, and as the ancient saying goes, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend,” so I gave it a read.I was surprised by how measured and convincing the author is in telling the story of her life, her upbringing, how she came to be a fervent admirer of Trump, and how she later came to be completely disillusioned. I can understand why she was reluctant to admit Trump’s shortcomings to herself, after he had done so much for her career, and her initial loyalty is, in my opinion, rather admirable. For my own part, I have always given the benefit of the doubt to someone who has been helpful and kind to me if a third party expresses a grievance against them. I’m prone to believe the evidence of my own experience more than something I only have someone else’s word for. And Omarosa, with breathtaking thoroughness, methodically relates the endless series of incidents she first tried to ignore or rationalize before realizing that something was seriously wrong.The many Trump trolls who are going on Amazon to give this book one-star ratings and slamming it as being “total lies” (an ironic charge considering their own cult leader) have obviously not read the book. Omarosa does not indulge in extensive speculation or idle gossip; virtually every statement or action of Trump’s that destroyed her loyalty to him is something he actually tweeted or said in a televised interview; she doesn’t indulge in he said/she said rumors. What’s most revelatory aren’t the things we didn’t already know, but rather how she recounts the ones we’re familiar with but from the unique perspective of someone who was on the inside looking out. And as has been revealed in numerous TV interviews, she has thoroughly documented everything she reports, possessing hundreds of audio tapes, emails, documents, and even videos of her time in the White House. (The book begins with an astonishing example in her account of her firing by John Kelly.) If you’re going to try to discredit the book, you’re going to need more than knee-jerk name-calling. Perhaps, and the reader has no way of knowing this, she has withheld information that would be damaging to her, but considering the smear campaign launched against her by the White House, one would think that anything really negative about her tenure would have been dredged up by now. And what she does tell us rings with complete authenticity.I was surprised at how sympathetic her observations on Melania are, and after reading her interpretation of numerous events made famous on the Internet, I now question the thoroughly negative gold-digger image I’d previously had. And the entire book ends on a surprisingly positive and optimistic note, which is the one thing in Unhinged I found unconvincing. But for all of our sakes, I hope she’s right.

I have just finished reading Omarosa's book. She comes across to me as self-serving, having attached herself to Mr. Trumpand using her association with him to further her own interests. Having said that, however, I add good for her! Her own interests include doing good things for other black people, especially students in historically black colleges. She is very smart, and clearly good at manipulating people and situations to her advantage. As she pointed out, when these traits are identified in white men especially in the business world and in politics, they are considered positive. In black women it is a different story. Mr. Trump is getting a good dose of well-deserved comeuppance from her. No, she did not reveal much of significance that we do not already know about Mr. Trump's personality, character, leadership, intelligence, and the character of people with which he chooses to surround himself and rely on for guidance, but I found it valuable to hear yet another testimony on these issues from someone who has known Mr. Trump for many years. I hope others continue to speak out and tell the world about what a disaster this man is as our leader. Prominent take-aways from this book are:Mr. Trump's overwhelming malignant narcissism. He always spins every situation such that he is at the center of it.His utter lack of loyalty to people from whom he demands complete loyalty.His utter and complete disregard for the truth. He sees the world as he would like it to be, rather than how it actually is.His physical, intellectual and emotional decline over the period of 15 years.It is said that people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. I would say that we all live in glass houses. None of us is perfect. We all have our closet skeletons and failings. Realizing that, we should be tolerant of other people's failings. But we need to come together and protect each other when stones start flying fast and furiously and put us all in danger.

I bought this book in the beginning as a "protest buy". Now I can't put it down. This is an extremely fascinating woman who has a hell of a story to tell. She writes in a very calm and casual way and when she does throw out some tidbits, it's done in a respectful and thoughtful manner. I judged her in the past rather negatively but now feel a connection with her which frankly surprises me. For the record I have never seen her on any Trump reality shows as i never cared for him. This is an excellent and classy book and i have a feeling the author is going to land on her feet with no problem after her tenure with Trump....unlike some others. Highly recommend!

Whether or not you think you like, or dislike, the author from image portrayed on The Apprentice, I found Omarosa's book to be an enjoyable read.The real treat here is that she is quite open about her history with "TrumpWorld" as she calls it in the book. She acknowledges her own self-interested motives, and blind spots. It's a story that starts with a starry eyed younger Omarosa, and ends with her freedom from the 'TrumpWorld cult'. Along the way she becomes increasingly aware that her former mentor, friend, and idol, has no empathy for others, is narcissistic to an extreme, does not read or intake new information unless it's on a favored cable TV channel, and she also sees signs of dementia-like behavior leaving her wondering what, if anything, she can do as an insider.If nothing else, it's worth a read for the timeline of the most controversial events during and after the 2016 election, from the perspective of someone inside.

I was pleased to find this account well written and even handed. Sadly it pulls the curtain back to unveil the unraveling of a country coming apart at it's core and the singular man responsible in tandem with it. This author surprised me.

While clicking on Look Inside I saw something interesting. To transmit the results of flipping a fair coin, you need to send one bit (1=heads, 0=tails). But a biased coin that is heads 75% of the time only requires 0.81 bits per flip. Intriguing, so I bought the book, and really liked it. The author explains things well, and uses examples from other areas of physics to explain difficult topics like entropy. I admit I skimmed the later chapters dealing with noise, and skipped the chapters on language and music entirely.PS: to solve the 'biased coin' issue (since the author doesn't) just search for 'coding theory biased coin' and see a concise explanation at stackexchange.

This is the missing manual that neither Claude Shannon wrote nor even Warren Weaver, who wrote the kinder, nicer, gentler introduction/annotations to Infomation Theory. A gift from the late 40's along with hoola-hoops and frisbees. And it is still finding new applications in various ancillary sciences! Much like Darwin's Natural Selection (Evolution), it kind of drips into everything, like an acid. It is a major pillar of science along with Relativity and Quantum Mecchanics coming out of the strife ridden 20th century. This book goes Weaver, in the 1949 book form of Shannon's paper where Weaver was tapped to write a mostly prose explanation. The theory is both simple and complex. A triumph that enabled the information revolution. If you want to understand this critical "theory." Read this book, or mine! Which is titled "Information Theory. Another way of knowing." and will be released on Amazon soon. But this book is a must for any budding communications engineer.

I have been working my way slowly through this book, as it reads like a typical non-fiction STEM text. Therefore, I have not completed it, yet. Even with a physics teaching background and two degrees in physics, I have to go slowly to fully grasp some of the esoterica, although it is enlightening and brings deeper understanding to many ideas in computer and internet communications to say nothing of "old fashioned" telegraphy and telephony. It is geared toward a more popular audience, but if math and physics is not of great interest to you, it may not be your cup of tea.Beyond the core sciences students of languages might be guided toward new perspectives on languages in general whether spoken, written, symbolic, encrypted (codex), DNA, etc.

I got this on a whim (Dover books are cheap) as I was starting an Information Theory Course. This does not provide a substitute on that kind of text, but it does provide more explained approach for the less technically inclined. Whereas most information theory books are so equation heavy they appear to be written in Romulan, this explains what things mean, rather than directly proving how to get there, which helps tie things together. That said, it's like a straight narrative versus an instruction manual, and makes an excellent supplement (or good general purpose reading, if that's your inclination).Decent algebra knowledge is required as background, and that's about it.

I wish every topic had a book like this one to introduce newcomers.Information theory is itself fairly interesting, but I found that the author used intriguing examples from a broad variety of disciplines to capture the reader's attention. He also has something of a self-deprecating writing style that will bring a smile to your face once or twice in each chapter.I loved the discussion of language and letter frequency, and it was even more interesting since now easily accessible tools exist (like Google's ngram) which allow you to explore some of the data and concepts first hand. I've explored various error correction/detection schemes online to gain a cursory understanding - this book did far more for me thanks to the simple and straightforward examples. I feel confident I could write my own (albeit basic) error correction code now, thanks solely to this book. I admit that the n-dimensional hypersphere-based code correction is somewhat beyond an easy implementation for me, but still, the explanation is engaging and I feel confident that I can explain the basics of geometrical error correction codes on a high level, which will be useful to me in my course of work.Anyhow, this kind of book, with enough depth to be challenging for someone with a basic science background yet still casual enough to read a bit here and there without getting lost, is a rare find. Well worth the very reasonable price. I wager that even someone with little interest in science or math could find some very interesting gems here. Have a deamy day.

If you want a general overview of what cartoons were popular in the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, then this is the book for you. However, I was expecting a more comprehensive history that dug a little bit deeper into cartoons that also ran during those decades. Spider-Man (1967), Return to the Planet of the Apes (1975), and Jem and the Holograms (1985) are just some of the great shows that weren’t even mentioned in this book.

How can you write about Bugs Bunny and NOT mention Bob McLampett, one of the Warner Brothers geniuses? And barely a mention of Tex Avery, who with Bob are the real father's of the wascally wabbit, not Chuck Jones, who came along later. Also, calling the Jonny Quest villain, Doctor Zin, a villainess? And later on was the Underdog balloon retired in 1984 or 85? Both dates are claimed. 40 years is a long stretch of cartoons to be referred to as the Golden Age. No, the Golden Age for Saturday morning cartoons was actually the 60's and early 70's. Unfortunately both of the authors were too young to have been able to enjoy Saturday afternoon cartoons during that time. The 60's and early 70's represented a time in America when the three major networks started to broadcast in color and the standard of living in the United States was so high that quality TV productions were the order of the day, including cartoons. For those of you old enough to remember, here are some of the great cartoons the authors did not cover in their book.Rocky and Bullwinkle (includes Fractured Fairy Tales and Mr. Peabody with his Way Back Machine)George of the Jungle (and who can forget "Call for Super Chicken!"?)The New Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (a combination of live action and animation with eye popping colors)Return the The Planet of the Apes (a re-boot showing a more advanced ape society)Star Trek (in many ways more imaginative than the original series)

On the plus side, this compendium offered interesting insights into the creative process for several influential cartoons, and for those of a certain age, a strong upwelling of nostalgia. But the descriptions of each cartoon’s impact on the medium felt formulaic, and the captions would better be described as labels based on the lack of information they conveyed. Also, for a book from a professional press, the number of spelling and grammatical errors was surprising. Overall, this ended up as a good idea that was only partially successful in its execution.

I was looking for a great gift to get my sister. Watching Saturday morning cartoons together as kids was a huge part of our childhood. I love the nostalgia it evokes and the fun facts behind our favorite shows! Great conversation starter for the home coffee table and makes the perfect gift!!! So happy!!!! I may just have to order another one for myself.

Very enjoyable read with plenty of photos of legendary Saturday Morning programs. The book is not a complete history, selecting only a handful of popular and significant programs over a 40 year scope. Still, the book is a fun read with tidbits of amusing trivia (for example, the origin of the word Smurf and Fred Flintstone's famous catch phrase).

Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937) is not a name that I think most English-speaking readers know.One part de Maupassant for fluidity; one part Kafka for the uncanny or Freud's das Unheimliche; and one part Edgar Allan Poe for psychological horror and; the last portion belongs to him alone: his own inimitable narrative and plots; and what we have is a writer to admire, one who preceded all of the magic realist writers. Jorge Luis Borges, Alejo Carpentier, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Arturo Uslar Pietri - in Latin American literature; Massimo Bontempelli, among Italian writers; and Salman Rushdie, Toni Morrison, and Angela Carter in the English-speaking world - all owe a debt to Horacio Quiroga.Quiroga is a writer primarily concerned with illusions and human foibles. In "The Dead Man," a man determined to tame Nature slips by accident and falls on his machete, denying to the end that his workaholic intensity is for naught. He is dying and as he dies the reader sees through the protagonist's eyes as the macroscopic winnows and narrows to the microscopic and then nothingness. In "A Slap in the Face," a tyrannical boss mistakes a stoical worker's silence for weakness until the worker turns on him, using the Boss Man's own riding crop for revenge, in a scene worthy of "Cool Hand Luke."To generalize, Latin American writers are known for weaving political commentary into their narrative and, for good reason, given the histories of the various countries, but Quiroga is hardly political. His commentary, if any, is cautionary, and I'd argue, a warning about our disrespect for Nature. Quiroga is an ecological writer of paramount importance. That he spent most of his life in and out of the jungles of the Misiones in the northwest of Argentina informs many of his stories. The jungles, the rivers, and animal life figure large. Nature in all of its manifestations is wild, untamable, and should be respected. An excellent demonstration of this is his story "Juan Darién," in which a tiger is raised as a boy but eventually rejects humanity because humans obsess about differences rather than focus on the common need for love and family. Read "Darién" and then find and read Borges's "Blue Tigers."Several of his stories deal with the horrific and the perverse. "The Feather Pillow" is a vampiric story that involves a wasting disease of unknown etiology and a pillow. "Sunstroke" is told from a dog's perspective about his master's innate stupidity. I can't even describe the unexpected outcome of the story, "The Decapitated Chicken," which involves four insufferable, bratty children.While dialogue is not prevalent in his work but keeping J.K. Rowling's use of snakes in mind, sit back and read Quiroga's "Anaconda," which uses dialogue effectively and is a fascinating short story-novella about an alliance between non-venomous and venomous snakes against scientists in the jungle collecting snake venom to develop anti-venom serum for every species of venomous snake. Aside the pharmaceutical exploitation that Quiroga could never have imagined, he creates a remarkable metaphor for strength with his heroic Anaconda, which, incidentally, is female.The Margaret Sayers Peden translation that I have cites the out of print Exiles (1926, Los Desterrados in Spanish) and Stories of Love, Madness, and Death (1917, Cuentos de Amor, de Locura y de Muerte) as Quiroga highpoints. The introductory essay alludes to a "Manual of the Perfect Short Story Writer" that Quiroga wrote for aspiring writers, but I am unable to find it in book form.In all the years I have been reading, it hasn't been often find the lives of writers terribly interesting, but I have to say that in the few biographical details that I have read about Horacio Quiroga I am convinced that there has been no other writer who has had a more cursed life. His father died in an accident with a shotgun. Horacio's stepfather, when he had become quite ill, killed himself. Horacio had been the one to discover the body. Quiroga's first wife committed suicide, leaving him with two small children. When they had grown up, they too became suicides. Sadly, when Quiroga was suffering from intractable pain from advanced prostate cancer, he chose to end his life with cyanide, but not before leaving over two hundred short stories to posterity.

Quiroga (1878-1937) is considered to be one of the finest short-story writers Latin America has produced, and among the writers there with whom the modern short story begins. This anthology was published in 1976 and contains 12 of his best pieces written between 1907 and 1935. It was the first collection in English covering the span of his career.Quiroga is known for his economy of style and power of dramatic focus, rapid narrative, and dark view of mankind, often showing people motivated by greed, fear, anger, stupidity or a desire for revenge. Most of the stories in this collection involved violence, death, madness or horror. There were also several animal tales featuring dogs and snakes that talked. Many of the pieces were set in the torrid jungle of the Misiones district of northeastern Argentina, and showed man's inability to control nature and fate. Two were set in the city. Just one story in the collection had a conventional hero and happy outcome: a courageous woman rowed for hours against a raging flood to get help for a companion.For me, the most interesting piece was "The Pursued," an early story containing the narrator's description of the gradual descent into madness of his intellectual acquaintance in the city. The interest came from the gripping description of the descent, and the fact that the narrator's comments suggested that he too was insane and contributed to the other's disintegration. Other good stories included the title piece, which showed children's terrifying powers of imitation in a way that won't soon be forgotten, and "The Dead Man" and "Drifting," about the rage to live against approaching death. The illustrations commissioned for the edition of the book I read were also well done and contributed to the stories' atmosphere.Some of the pieces had some affinities with magic realism, if that means the use merely of the bizarre or supernatural. His works weren't magic realism in the sense of use of nonlinear, parallel plots, unusual shifts in time and space, creation of a mythical place, or heavy borrowing from myth, legend and dream. The stories included in the collection were very linear in narrative and didn't distort reality in intensifying it. His work may be related to magic realism in the same distant way as an author like Ambrose Bierce or many writers of horror stories are related to it.A minor criticism of this anthology might be that the atmosphere of virtually unrelieved doom and darkness got a bit oppressive after awhile. I would've liked to read additional stories by this author in this short, 160-page collection to see whether he was capable of a greater range. Within the fictional territory included in this short book, he was powerful. I'd agree with other readers that his writing is important for readers interested in Latin American fiction, particularly the short story.Another collection in English of the writer's work is The Exiles and Other Stories, produced in 1987 by the same publisher. It focuses more on the atmosphere of the Misiones jungle and the various characters who inhabited it, and less on the intense atmosphere of dread, the supernatural and the bizarre.

Quiroga's work is some of the strangest material I've ever encountered, and also some of the grimmest. He has an acute awareness of mortality that expands with each tale and his prose, in translation is really lush and great. I enjoyed reading this book. The author has done a good job of giving basic information and anyone trying to get into this field would be benefited.At the same time, you need to understand that not anyone with a computer can do it. Rather, you need to have a good grip over the basics of computer programming before you can learn the basics mentioned here.The book offers a good introduction to those with a grip over at least one or two programming language.

This was a very interesting read.I was in needed wireless hacking and I found helpful this book.It really helped me out getting to know the basics I would recommend this book as a starting point!

Amazing book, I'm far to the important stuff, but even in the first chapters there is enough information about things that we in programing mode don't think.

This book is designed to focus on wirelessless; Hacking. You will be exposed to the basics of how wireless networks operate; However, the main goal is to wireless networks against many hacking methods teach. | some basic networking knowledge .Therefore, I would highly recommend that you read Volume 1 of this book first, if you have not . Already i was read. Vome, 1 - Beginmen 's Guide has already explained all the basic hacking terms that are frequently mentioned in this volume. To get better understanding some of these concepts, you may start by gaining knowledge from Volume 1. This book has plenty of actionable tips on how to break into wireless networks and some of them are similar to one another. Overall this book was a highly informative guide.

This was a good book of basics for beginners. The terminology is easy to understand and follow. The author explains everything thoroughly. My skills are a little ahead of this, it still gets four stars because it is informative and good to use as a quick reference guide. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in hacking - beginners or masters! Full of awesome useful information. I learned a lot. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to learn to hack.

This book gave me quite the idea of what hackers of and how they get into our personal information. I never knew that there were as many hackers in the world today and this book helped explain all of the different types and what they do online.I’m very glad to have read through it and know just how in-depth hacking can be and where I need to increase my personal security online.

The Allies would experience a painful learning curve...Experienced author Mark Stille has provided an interesting and informative narrative on the Allied campaign to take New Georgia and Bougainville. His coverage of the naval battles is especially good, with sharp, even-handed commentary and some excellent battle diagrams. Coverage of the fighting on land will also be of interest to readers, as the Allies learned to bypass major Japanese troop concentrations. The narrative is nicely supported with period photographs and modern illustrations. Well recommended as concise coverage to students of the campaign.

Kindle version is well written with some excellent maps of the ground and naval actions. However, I was disappointed by the photographs. About a dozen pictures had descriptions but the corresponding photographs are missing. Recommend the hard copy not the Kindle version.

Book was thorough and well written. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 because the artist who drew the renditions did a poor job. This is NOT up to the previous standards. Other books had much better and highly detailed renditions. Would I recommend this book, YES ! I will let the imaginations of the reader substitute for the renditions.

Very good book with many pictures,but the information about the battles was basic,I would recommend.

I've been a fan of Mark Stille's Osprey titles and have read most of them. This book has good qualities, but I'll confess disapointment with his rather cursory concluding assessment of the campaign's impact. Comparative losses aren't mentioned for a campaign that caused significant attrition of IJN's destroyers and submarines. Even the huge impact of the campaign in gutting the IJN's air units is largely ignored. Yamamoto and Koga's commitment of their carrier based aircraft to Rabaul, trying to hold off the American advances, led to such extreme losses in planes and pilots that Combined Fleet found itself unable to respond to American landings in the Gilbert and Marshall islands. Not discussed.
