This series is everything I wanted and more. I highly recommend for any deadpool or spiderman fan. I read it in one afternoon. I could not put it down. I am a huge Spideypool fan and even though I doubt we'll ever get a real romance with these two I am willing to take whatever scraps the creators are willing to toss us fangirls.
Marvel finally decided to make a Spider-Man-Deadpool team up comic. This collects issues #1-5 and 8. It was only natural that this would come about. Deadpool often talked about how much he liked Spidey and the two both like talking. At the same time Peter Parker can’t stand Wade Wilson so they make an odd couple. The basis of this collection is that Pool is trying to be a better person and decides to hang out with Spider-Man to improve himself. At the same time he wants to kill Peter Parker because he thinks he’s a greedy businessman not knowing Parker’s secret identity. Wilson even reveals his daughter Ellie to Parker and Spider-Man thinks he can reclaim a lost soul.In the process they go through a whole bunch of random bad guys. They make one liners at each other. Things get blown up. People get stabbed. You know the business. Wilson even tries to set Spidey up with a blind date which blows up in their faces. It’s fun and inane at the same time.
Well there is 3 things about this tradeI don't like so I'll just get them out of the way immediately.1. It starts with the 1st five issues then jumps to issue 8 which when I read the synopsis, I didn't think it would bother me because im not a fan of Deadpool or the current status Dan Slott has put Spider-Man in as billionaire Tony Stark/Bruce Wayne rip-off. Once I finished the 5th issue and skipped issues 6 & 7 because Marvel decided to leave them out anyway even though on the back of the book they give you the idea those stories are included I got frustrated going to issue 8. I don't buy single issues from Marvel because the prices for their single issues are ridiculous especially when you compare them to what DC is doing, so didnt know what stories were contained in each issue of this trade. Missing out on those 2 chapters of this series did bother me a little because now im left wondering what happened in them, im guessing they'll put them in the next trade or leave them out of the trades altogether just like what happened with Rick Remender's Venom series which has kept me from picking them up.2. Spider-Man he's my favorite character Marvel has and Deadpool is one of the characters they have I dislike the most but I like him way more than Spidey in this book. Peter Parker/Spider-Man comes off as a total knob when interacting with Deadpool save for one section when Deadpool gets him a date but that's the only part I found Spidey as an enjoyable character. I assume Joe Kelly is writing Spider-Man that way because he's not a fan of the current version of Spider-Man either and is jabbing at editorial for turning him into a turd.3. The dialogue left me scratching my head a lot, when the 2 heroes would speak with each other. it would start off well then suddenly hit a brick wall and the dialogue would just leave you hanging. Maybe its just the character of Deadpool and how he is written that im not used to reading or the writer should have spent a little extra time going over his work. Whatever the case this could have been done better. Now what I likeThe artwork was great and it was the first time I actually read something Ed McGuinness has done the art for and id love to see more of his work in conjunction with Spider-Man in the future once the character is being handled better in the main Spider-Man book. While I feel that Spider-Man sucked in this book Im glad Joe Kelly highlighted how much of a snob he is in it reflecting what I think of him in the Amazing Spider-Man series and I give him credit for making me care WAY more for Deadpool. While I have problems with the dialogue it was a fun book until the end when they skip over Issues 6 & 7 and go straight to 8 instead, i'm probably going to grab the next trade assuming those missing issues are included in that one. If you like current Spider-Man and the Deadpool character id say pick it up, or even if you despise the current interpretation of Spider-Man and want to see him be shown in a negative light while interacting with a character who just wants to be his friend pick it up, Maybe this series will be the one to make me enjoy Deadpool as a character, I certainly liked him better in this than I did my favorite superhero.
I'm not a fan of spiderman, and I can only tolerate small amounts of deadpool at a time, yet I loved this book. Basically the plot is that deadpool decreases he wants to be spiderman friend, after an incident in uncanny avengers where spiderman leaves the team over deadpool being a member. This book is hilarious, and is one of the only times I've really found spiderman funny. Each of them gets roughly sequel panel time, so it it really is a good team up story. I'm not sure how long this idea can go on without getting played out, but i would highly recommend this volume.
Product itself is absolutely amazing - improper packaging, however caused it to come stuffed into my mailbox. I've spent a week trying to get the huge crease out of it. If I'd bought it used, I'd be more understanding, but purchasing a new comic book, this is a little ridiculous.
Deadpool and Spiderman... And the Merc with the mouth honestly cares about someone else? Fantastic! Unless Wade is crazier than usual, his confession that he's actually concerned with Spiderman's state of mind is, well, mind-blowing.Five stars and worth every one.
This book is fun. Spider-Man and Deadpool are the friends that shouldn't be friends but somehow are. I was pulled into the story from the beginning, and I can't wait to see where things go in volume 2.
Deadpool and Spiderman make an excellent duo. They both have a snarky sense of humor and kick lots of bad guy tail. Deadpool's unabashed mancrush on Spiderman never fails to entertain. Overall it's a good series.
