Massimo Bottura is the chef patron of Osteria Francescana, a three-Michelin-star restaurant that he opened in 1995 in Modena, Italy, which was ranked #1 in the World's 50 Best in 2016. Based on the description, this sounded like a book that would help all of us evaluate what is in our pantry, on our shelves, and what we are discarding, and then make better use of everything in uncomplicated ways. Not so.I love to cook for my family, and have a vast collection of cookbooks and recipes; I also have a well-stocked pantry. Even so, I don't have various cheese rinds, mascarpone, fresh herbs (yes, I know I can substitute dried), salt packed capers, etc., nor did I expect to find recipes involving pickling and sourdough starters. I won't belabor this, but I will say that, while beautifully documented in photos and instructions, it isn't a book that will help those of us who wish to reduce waste and serve quality meals to those we love and/or provide food to with what is already in our supplies or readily (and economically) available, and in a timely fashion.Final word is that, while I have many of the condiments and spices called for in this book, many or most of the recipes are not all that 'simple', and also involve other things that I can't access (and I didn't see suggestions for substitutions). It is probably a great book for real foodie cooks who have all sorts of exotic and fresh ingredients (like seafood varieties, fruits, and veggies found in warmer climates), but it won't help the vast majority of us who don't have the time or resources to assemble these dishes. It would also be very beneficial to have the 'Look Inside' feature for this book...both for the buyer and the seller...I wouldn't have bought it if I could have seen what was inside.

I have hundreds of cookbooks. This is one of the best in the whole collection. First, it is written with great generosity. Second, there are interesting vignettes that explain the thinking behind some of the recipes and introduce techniques that are new to me but easy to follow. Third, the recipes are delicious. Fourth, the recipes use commonly available ingredients; there is nothing precious about it except the one recipe with a bit of edible gold leaf (used to good effect). I'm buying copies to give to foodie friends.

This was a gift for my son, who is a professional chef that trained at the CIA. He loves this book. Highly recommend.

I thought this would have more recipes and I'd find the ingredients in my pantry and fridge. I'm not sure if I'll keep it or regift it. I do like the fact that the proceeds go to the soup kitchen in Italy.

This is a beautiful book for the recipes but also the stories. I love it and am so glad to have it on my bookshelf.

So the second I finished Truly, Devious in November, I 1) Preordered this book 2) Re-read it to be sure I was sure of all the clues about who the kidnapper was and so I knew and could satisfy myself as I waited to learn the answer to that all consuming riddle. (P.s. magnificent author lady, if you are reading this, I asked everyone I knew to come up with answers, and we all had so many. And of course I thought about it every single day when I woke up, and yet didn't come up with the answer and it's literally so simple I was so mad at myself!) So last night I was thinking about how I would get to read this today, I'd literally marked my Calendar, when it was delivered to my kindle at 11 pm central time! HUZZAH FOR ME, but alas not for my sleep schedule. I started reading it right away because I had to know the answer to the riddle, and I was about 76% of the way through when I realized, Holy Shark, I have read 76% of this book. Then I was so sad that it was going to be over soon, that I thought about putting it down. It was 1:30 am after all. But I couldn't. So onwards I went. And now I'm going to have to wait a whole year just to read the next one, which has me in the pit of despair. If you haven't read the first book in this series, please read it, and then come talk to me about it. I need to converse about this. I've read A LOT A LOT of books in my lifetime, and I rarely write reviews, but this series has stuck with me, and inspired me in my own writing, and I just want to share it with everyone. Maureen Johnson is so talented, my creative writing major self is made extremely insecure by her immense talent. This is me, bowing down to the new queen of mystery. That is all. (Off to re-read and try and solve the modern day stuff because I am thoroughly vexed by this wait time)

I was really excited to see what happened after that incredibly rude cliffhanger, and hoped to get more answers in this installment. 🕵️ I am pleased to say that we got some much-needed answers (& some new questions!), as well as more actual investigating, but overall this one fell into the middle book syndrome for me. It was an enjoyable and I will finish the series, but if I am being honest I could have done without the first 40% of this book.The book opens up with Stevie back home in Pittsburgh, her parents having removed her from Ellingham Academy after news got out about what happened - and Stevie's involvement - in the end of the previous book. She's trying to readjust to life back home while still obsessing over the Truly Devious case, but we as readers feel the same disconnect she does once she leaves the Academy. Lucky for everyone she gets back into Ellingham, but not without strings. And the longer she keeps that truth hidden, the worse it is going to be for her."Murderers aren't a type. They're anyone."I got 40% into the book before any real investigating started to take place, which was a lot more of a disappointing pace than in the first book. I feel like there was a lot of repetition and reiteration in the narrative of The Vanishing Stair, and in my opinion there is little of value that was added in the first half of the book to where the mysteries uncovered here could have been part of book 1 and it may have been stronger for it.I was rather disappointed with the "secrets for getting back into Ellingham and the subsequent fallout" plotline. The conflict made little sense to me and I was left wondering why she even kept it a secret to begin with. (For conflict, that's why.)I will say that this series has some amazing anxiety representation in it, and I really appreciate how Stevie's anxiety is almost a character itself in this book. As a person who suffers from chronic and crippling anxiety, it means a lot to me to see it depicted with care on the page and have it normalized.Despite my not really enjoying myself for almost half of the book, once the investigation and clues begin to fall into place I was absolutely hooked! I really enjoyed how everything was unraveled slowly, and you can tell than Johnson has plotted the main points of the overall mystery with care. I'll admit that I guessed the big twist, but that isn't uncommon for me to do so it never really lessens my reading experience. I felt like the ending made sense and I am excited to see how things wrap up!Overall, while this wasn't a perfect read for me it was definitely an enjoyable addition to the Truly Devious trilogy! You'll learn the solution to Ellingham's final riddle in this one, but there's still more of this mystery to uncover. Looking forward to seeing how this one ends!

It answers some questions and raises quite a few more.When the story begins Stevie is back home in Pittsburgh and willing to do anything to get back to Ellingham. She misses her freedom and her friends and, most of all, the chance to solve the Truly Devious case. But being willing to do anything means that she will have to take a favor from Senator Edward King, a man she despises and a man who is her new friend David's father.She agrees to keep an eye on David who is an accident ready to happen and to not tell him that her return had anything to do with his father. She comes back to a campus dealing with the loss of one student and the disappearance of another. But Fenton, as she prefers to be called, is a confusing character - alcoholic and paranoid - who claims to have new information that will help solve the case.The story also has flashbacks to 1936 when the kidnapping happened which introduce us to Francis Josephine Crane and Edward Pierce Davenport. Frankie and Eddie want to be like Bonnie and Clyde. Frankie has a fascination with explosives and crime and Eddie is a bad poet. We learn their role in the kidnapping.We also see in flashbacks more about Mr. Ellingham and a codicil to his will that was hidden by his secretary after his death. Fenton seems to have found about about the codicil and that information aids Stevie's investigation.This was a wonderfully plotted and twisty story with a mystery in the past and mysteries in the present too. I loved Stevie who deals with anxiety and has a dogged determination to solve the Ellingham case. I can't wait for the next book. I have so many questions!

MORRIS R. DRIELS has taught engineering at universities in the United Kingdom and the United States since 1972. Amazing walk-through for autocad. This author is very thorough at explaining where tools are and how to use them. I have a Mac and use this and it’s similar enough to follow along!

Product was shipped in a very timely matter. Only issue was the slash down the center of the back of the book. It was at the bottom of the box where a knife usually makes its pass to cut through the tape. I receive items daily and know mistakes like that happen. It's all good.

A really good book to approach AutoCad. Cover slow and very clear with a lot of patience and explainations.

First, a disclaimer: I have struggled to read this book, starting and stopping (in frustration, in disbelief, in anger at having wasted my money) a half dozen since I downloaded and began to read A CONQUEST IMPOSSIBLE TO RESIST. I currently am at 36% and I'm not sure I'll be able to force myself to finish it.Ms. Laurens is capable of writing enjoyable, engaging romances with actual plots and character development. Just recently, I reread DEVIL'S BRIDE and THE MASTERFUL MR. MONTAGUE and enjoyed them. I've enjoyed the Casebook of Barnaby Adair series and the Lady Obaldstone series. I thought the recent LEGEND OF NIMWAY HALL book was weak and pretty generic as far as the setting went, but still readable.But then this ... mess. I have one question for Ms. Laurens: WTF happened? Is it that when you went to self-publishing, you lost vital input from a talented editor? You lost an honest critique group? Because either of those two would have told you to go back to the computer and do a major rewrite of this one.A CONQUEST IMPOSSIBLE TO RESIST is the story of Demon and Flick's 29-year-old daughter Prudence, now manager of the family stables and its breeding program (you're told, but don't observe), who goes to Ireland to inspect the horses owned by Deaglan, the Earl of Glengarah.Immediately upon setting eyes on each other, the two fall into a case of raging Insta-lust. From that point onward, the story is pages and pages and pages and pages and pages and pages of internal musing about their sexual attraction, interrupted occasionally and briefly by sexual innuendo banter. There are a couple of flashes of possible actual story and decent, familiar Laurens writing, but no, it's back to pages and pages and pages of internal musing about sexual attraction and sex. At 22% (one of those put the book down in disgust moments), the two have known each other for -- what? -- two days and have barely spoken anything but cagey, defensive, manipulative horse-related opening salvos re potential business dealings and some sexual double entendres and innuendos, and suddenly the inaptly named Prudence is slipping off her shoe and playing footsie with the Earl at the family dinner table, for heaven's sake.Then there are pages and pages and pages more of internal musing about sex and a couple preliminary sexual encounters (and, admittedly, some pages of mostly tell-not-show evaluations of horses) and then it's 36% into the story and they're headed off to have sex after Pru tells the earl she wants him to be clear this is just a couple-days-long sexual fling, so don't get any ideas, which makes him immediately decide she's the perfect woman to be his countess ... WTF?Where is the romance in this? Where is the STORY in this? This is supposed to be the Victorian era. Yeah, yeah, it's a Cynster story so there will be the inevitable throw convention to the winds and anticipate the wedding vows, but usually there's some story, some relationship-building, some plot development beforehand. Pru muses about how she's never before really been attracted to a man, so why is she then ready to jump into an brief sexual tryst with this stranger? It makes no sense and it isn't in any way romantic.Anyway, I decided to write my review as a cautionary tale for potential readers so you can decide whether this book looks worth your money to you. I wish someone else had posted something like this so I could have spent my dollars on something more worthwhile.If I'm ever able to drum up the interest to finish this book, I'll add to my review; but frankly, I think this is the last Cynster book I'll be reading.I sure hope Ms. Laurens doesn't take the Casebook of Barnaby Adair series into "Insta-lust and pages and pages of sex is an adequate substitute for plot and character development" style of writing, or it'll be the end of the road there for me as well.

Stephanie Laurens used to be one of my favorite authors - but NO MORE! This book and the one published directly before are wordy, wordy, wordy. I don't know what has happened with her Editor and Publisher but my guess is they have both LOST their RED PENCILS! I wish Amazon would have a CANCEL button to use for a book after it has been received because I would return this book immediately and expect my money back. I have managed to plow my way through less than 30% of this novel. What a Disappointment! I could not make myself fight my way through anymore extraneous dialog. I have also cancelled Stephanie's next Cavanaughs book, "The Pursuits of Lord Kit Cavanaugh" (The Cavanaughs Book 2) rather than waste my money again.

I have read all of the Cynster books and while I agree with some of the comments already made (instant lust dominated too fast/too long with none of the subtle engaging as in when Devil met Honoria), I also thought some were too harsh. I did enjoy the book. Being familiar with the "Bar Cynster" and their stories, I looked forward to the tales of the next generation and while a couple were a little weak (this one and Sebastian's story), I have enjoyed reading about the adults they have become. In this book, Prudence takes on the task of determining the quality of horses wishing to breed with the Cynster stables. There is much detail on how this evaluating is done - some rather tedious - but of course there is a side romance and a mystery to handle as well. Is this her best writing? No. Best editing? No. (Pru's two closest friends are Antonia and Catriona??? Her aunt??) Was it worth the read? Yes, to me it was. I wanted to see where Pru's path led her and was glad of the chance to look in at Demon and Flip again. And I look forward to Christopher's story. Not every book, by any author, is five star but Stephanie Laurens (and her readers) knows her characters and she has given me many hours of enjoyment over the years. I expect that will continue.

This book is a twist on the plot if you read a lot of Regency romance's.Usually there is something that brings the H & H together, murder, scandal, problems with the family ect. And a number of offer's of marriage that she turned down.She is in charge of the Cynster breeding program, she receives a letter from the Earl of Glengarah about breeding from their horse's. No on has ever been able to view the collection of Glengarah horse's. So she goes to Ireland, and meet Deaglan other rake, but she is there to see the horse's.But when they meet for the first time in her life, she has an attraction to the handsome Earl.Deaglan, is also surprised by his immediate response to a high lady of the ton.These two have to follow there attraction, and find common ground, so they are already trusting each other before the drama starts.Someone does not want a deal between the Cynster's and the Glengarah and will stop at nothingto stop it.Please give this book a change, it is different but just as wonderful as all of Stephanie's stories are.

I have read all of Stephanie Laurens books and still enjoy each one. I reread when I have the time, and she is on my always buy list. I've searched for out of date books to catch up on here backlist. I've been lucky enough to find them. I recommend you settle in a lazy chair and sink into the era of romance. Thank you!
